The New Testament teaches that the Christian life is lived in community…
At Northwest Gospel Church, we invite people into “covenant membership.” Membership is more than just a formality, it is how we go about committing to one another in order to live how the Bible calls us to live.
We want to be people who love, pray for, encourage, and challenge each other to live in light of the gospel. Covenant Membership is one of the ways that we live in alignment with the teaching of the New Testament.
So, how do I become a covenant member?
Like so much of life in the NGC family, this process is done in community. The process usually follows these steps:
1. Let us know you’re interested in membership
Get the process moving forward by reaching out to an NGC elder or deacon, filling out a Connection Card on a Sunday, or emailing us.
2. Attend ‘NGC 101’
NGC 101 is a three-week class offered several times a year. In this class, you’ll be introduced to some of NGC’s history, beliefs, and practices. The whole goal of this class is to, alongside others, get acquainted with the community of NGC. Not everyone in NGC 101 is pursuing membership, but the class is a prerequisite for membership as it lays out important aspects of who we are, what we believe, and how we live out those beliefs.
3. Meet with an elder
The next step in the process is to meet with an NGC elder. This meeting not only gives another opportunity for you to get to know some of NGC’s leadership, it also gives NGC leaders the chance to meet you. We never want people stepping into membership if they’re unsure of core beliefs or if they have big questions about different aspects of life at NGC.
4. Sign the membership covenant
The last step in the process is signing the membership covenant and being recognized as a covenant member of NGC. Especially in the Pacific Northwest, some of us can be a little uneasy about “signing on the dotted line,” but we take membership very seriously and we want everyone stepping into membership to be clear on how they can expect NGC to care for and support them and how NGC expects them to care for and support the church.
Still unsure about membership? Not sure if this is the right next step for you or your family? Let’s connect!
